Creating a Policy Framework
The Commission has recognized that ICTs and ICT-based innovations may provide one of the potentially most cost-effective means to achieve the 2020 targets. We aim at creating a policy framework that will allow the energy-saving potential of ICTs to be widely recognized and exploited.
New working partnerships
ICTs-based innovations are essential to provide the tools that enable business and citizens to really begin the process of reducing their energy and carbon footprints, nevertheless the ICT sector cannot do it alone.
New working partnerships will need to be established with regional and local authorities: on the supply side, with the energy sector and on the demand side with progressive businesses. Cities are home to almost half the world’s population, consume over 75% of the world’s energy and produce 80% of its greenhouse gas emissions. In Europe there are several initiatives beginning to bring together public, private and voluntary sector organisations in various partnership arrangements, which aim at maximising the effectiveness of ICTs in contributing to the 2020 targets.
Who should attend the event?
Policy and business decision-makers in the field of ICT for Energy Efficiency. This includes also researchers and engineers interested in shaping Europe's future.
Participating to this event is free of charge, but you must register. Registration will close on 10th March 2009.
