Social Services and Smart Products at the ITEA-2 PO Preparation Days

The ITEA-2 PO Preparation Days in Paris saw more than 50 ideas being presented, resulting in 20 concrete project proposals, centered around 3 to 4 important trends.

What happens during these days?

In order to prepare for their project calls, ITEA-2 organises PO Preparation Days aimed to help organisations form consortia and generate preliminary outlines for projects by bringing together interested companies, research institutes, universities etc. with innovative ideas for projects.

Initially, more than 50 ideas were presented during an informal poster session and pitched in two parallel presentation sessions. Afterwards, these ideas were clustered and discussed in small groups, in order to form a rough first description of a project and gather an initial consortium of interested partners. In the end, 20 project ideas were presented in the last plenary session.

What trends were observed?

Observing the project proposals presented during the last plenary sessions, we could identify the following important trends:

  • Social solutions and services, such as involving users for product development & evaluation, personal & professional match-making at events using online services, and exploiting knowledge originating from social networks in business environments.
  • Smart products and solutions, considering low-level technological components (e.g. sensors, cameras, image recognition) as well as high-level personalised multi-modal interaction (e.g. based on user- and context-aware models) in diverse applications domains such as healthcare and gaming.
  • Emergency management and dispatching, such as dynamic risk assessment, and interactive training and coaching.

What does this mean for you?

If any of these topics are of interest to you and your company, or if you’re interested to know other topics that were discussed, do not hesitate to contact the PiCToR advisers, who can introduce you to the consortia and can help you in preparing the Project Outline.
